This board member training is designed to provide new and aspiring directors a basic understanding of the fundamentals of governance best practice. This is particularly useful for those who are seeking greater clarity around the role of directors and how effective boards lead to higher-performing organisations.

Participants will be networking with like-minded individuals, as well as directors from some of New Zealand’s most influential organisations. Content includes:

  • Introduction to governance and different governing structures

  • The role of the board/governance

  • Difference between governance, management and representation

  • Overview of director duties, obligations and general legislation affecting directors (Companies Act, HSWA etc)

  • Overview of finance, strategy and risk from directors’ perspective

  • Effective board practices and processes I.e., foundational documents, agendas, minutes, meeting structures, workplans

  • Board dynamics and culture

  • The future of governance, board successions planning and ongoing professional development
